Do you want to make music videos but are unsure where to start? How do you get your vision down and present it to the world?

Austin School of Film is extremely excited to introduce our newest class and our newest faculty member John Valley!

Austin is a city known for its music industry and musicians, with our official motto being the "Live Music Capital of the World". On any given night you can find a hundred venues showcasing a wide variety live music performances. Further, film and music intersect constantly within creative industries and curating video to sound or scoring (or vice versa) is just as important as the actual film production.

ABOUT JOHN VALLEY

Since moving to Austin, John has directed over 40 music videos and a feature film (check out a write-up published earlier this year, about his feature DUNCAN - THE MOVIE c/o The Austin Chronicle). He has also appeared in over 30 stage productions and numerous films, including Robert Rodriguez’s 2019 independent feature Red 11 and reality series, Rebel Without A Crew.

So, what’s the class?

Austin School of Film's Creative Filmmaking: Music Video Production  class is designed to give you insight into the practical concerns involved with completing a music video from top to bottom with an industry filmmaker. Students will be guided hands-on to create a cinematic music video.

John, the lead instructor, draws on his experience directing video for bands & musicians such as Whiskey Shivers, A Giant Dog and Sweet Spirit. In this course you will not only be guided through his process for marketing video concepts to a band or record label but also learning how to conceptualize a project, collaborate with a musical artist or band, produce, shoot, direct, and edit a music video.

From active or aspiring filmmakers, directors, editors, cinematographers or anyone who wants to take their video skills to the next level, this project-based course will teach students technical skills, project-based learning, how to create a clear vision, and networking strategies with students walking away with a 2-5 completed music video of their own.

Music videos completed in this course are eligible to be screened at multiple ASoF student showcases, including our SXSW Official Film Community Screening.

For a limited time this class and all class in our course catalog are 25% off with code DREAMBIG - we hope to inspire, educate, and empower both new and established creators and filmmakers to create, work, and learn with us! #comecreatewithus
