DIGITAL ANIMATION CAMP

Immerse yourself in the magical realm of animation, focusing on Digital 2D Animation! Throughout our camp experience, youth will embark on a creative journey, mastering the craft of animated characters and captivating worlds using Adobe Animate, a Wacom tablet, and stylus.

Students will dive into the process of Digital 2D Animation, applying essential animation principles to breathe life into their ideas. This experience is perfect for tech-savvy students eager to explore the intricacies of creating digital animations with real animation software.

As a finale, students will learn how to compile a highlights reel featuring their favorite animations created during the week with music or voice over! This reel will be showcased at both the end-of-camp screening and the official showcase at Alamo Drafthouse in August 2024.

No prior animation experience is necessary, but familiarity with basic computer skills is essential, as this is a tech art experience. We highly recommend tailoring this camp towards individuals with an interest in drawing, as working with a Wacom tablet and stylus tends to be more accessible for those who engage in drawing for enjoyment.

SUPER 8 FILMMAKING CAMP

Did you know that Austin School of Film teaches hundreds of adults from all over the country Super 8 and 16mm techniques each year? Due to popular demand, we are excited to expand our efforts into a youth-friendly camp version of our award-winning analog filmmaking workshops!

Youth will dive into the vintage charm of Super 8 cameras in contemporary filmmaking. This classic style has left its mark in various creative realms, from music videos like Katy Perry's "Daisies" to brand marketing by creators like Madelyn De La Rosa. We'll even explore some historical and cool music videos shot in Austin and on Super 8 throughout the years (hello, Drake!)

In this camp, each student will learn to operate an analog motion picture camera, shoot their own roll of film, develop it in our in-house darkroom, and master the art of splicing and digitizing their footage. Students are encouraged to work in pairs or groups and will cut together their own mini Super 8 short film. This camp is perfect for kids who want to get messy, have a deep interest in art, film, and music.  No prior filmmaking experience required.

By the camp's conclusion, students will have produced 1-3 mini short completely analog films, set to be showcased at both the end-of-camp screening and the official showcase at Alamo Drafthouse in August 2024.
