Screening Party: Route to Emancipation (Documentary)

  • Motion Media Arts Center 2200 Tillery Street Austin, TX, 78723 United States (map)

You're invited to the Austin premiere of Black History Bike Ride's short film "The Route to Emancipation".

This documentary follows BHBR's leaders, Talib, Ariel, and Brandon, as they undertake a 350-mile cycling route from the Texas Capitol in Austin to the site in Galveston where Juneteenth began in 1865. Along the way, they explore centuries of Black history through interviews with historians and community leaders. After the screening there will be a Q&A with the filmmakers.

This event will honor the subjects, crew, and volunteers who work to shine a light on the rich, often untold stories of Texas' Black communities. Join us to celebrate this short documenary's launch into the world!

We encourage you to donate to Black History Bike Ride! To mark the premier of our documentary, we will be raffling off a Specialized Globe Haul ST (MSRP: $2800) leading up to the event. Anyone can enter the raffle and you do not need to be present at the event if you are the winner of the bike. The winner will be announced at the screening event.
