During Austin Studio Tour, we're opening our doors for an exhibition, two hands-on workshops, and a night to meet the people making work here. Every event is free. Neighbors, first timers, and lifelong artists all welcome.

What is the Austin Studio Tour?
A free citywide celebration of art that invites the public into working artists' studios, galleries, and creative spaces across Austin. Now in its 24th year, produced by Almost Real Things.
It is Texas's biggest art event. The 2025 tour brought together 723 participants across 317 locations. Attendees browse profiles online and in the printed Guidebook, then build their own route through the city: buy art, see how it gets made, and meet the people making it.

A studio tour usually asks you to look at the work. We'd rather you put your hands on it.
Three of our four events hand you a camera, a strip of film, or a seat at the table with the people who make this stuff for a living. The fourth puts Austin's film and video artists on screen in our Black Box Studio.
You do not need experience, equipment, or a background in film. Whether you have made a film before or have never picked up a camera, there is a way in here.

We're opening our Black Box Studio at The Canopy for a curated media arts exhibition putting Austin's film and video artists in front of an audience, presented in partnership with Almost Real Things.

Real celluloid, real hands.
Our workshop series lands on site at Govalle Elementary, where young creators work with actual motion picture film. No screens, no software. Just film, light, and what happens when you touch it.

Shoot Super 8 together.
Families shoot Super 8 side by side and document the tour as it happens. Kids, parents, grandparents, all on the same roll. What you shoot becomes part of the record of this weekend in Govalle.

Meet the people making it.
A media artist panel and mixer closes things out. Hear how the work in the exhibition actually got made, then stay and meet the room. This is the part where collaborators find each other.

Two rooms in Govalle.
Black Box Studio at The Canopy
Our studio space, cleared and turned over to a screen for the weekend. This is where the exhibition hangs and where the panel and mixer close out the series.
Govalle Elementary
The workshops come to the neighborhood instead of asking the neighborhood to come to us. Celluloid with young creators, Super 8 with families, on site at the school.
