Common questions
Before you apply.
01
How long is the commitment?
Six months minimum, paid monthly on the 1st of each month. After that, you can stay month-to-month for as long as you want. No renewal hoops, no re-application.
02
Do I get a tour before committing?
Yes. A studio tour is part of every application review. You'll meet the team, walk through both studios, and ask anything before money changes hands.
03
What's the difference between the black box and the white box?
Two 1,300 sq ft studios, side by side. One with black walls (better for moody, cinematic, dramatic lighting work), one with white walls (better for clean, lifestyle, product, and lighter setups). Members have access to both. Use whichever fits the shoot.
04
Can I use the studio for personal projects and experiments?
Yes, please. Experimenting is what makes the strong work, and we expect members to use the space for personal projects, tests, and creative play, not just client gigs. The studio is yours to mess around in. Trying things and failing is part of the deal.
05
What's the member exhibition?
Four times a year, members get an open call to submit work for a Cinemaker exhibition. Members only. A place to show what you've been making, get seen, and build the body of work that lives outside client briefs.
06
What gear is included?
Pro lighting (Profoto, ARRI, Amaran), apple boxes, C-stands, sandbags, gaff tape, flags, scrims, reflectors, V-flats, gels. Backdrops in black, white, grey plus seasonal colors. Full iMac station with fiber internet. Rotating props and furniture.
07
Can I bring my crew, clients, and collaborators?
Yes. The studio is yours during your booked time. Bring whoever you need. Crew, clients, models, collaborators, friends helping out.
08
Who's it for? Just filmmakers?
No. Photographers, filmmakers, dancers, theater companies, small arts orgs, music video crews, content creators, performers. Anyone who needs consistent studio access. If your work fits in 1,300 sq ft, it fits here.
09
Do I have to be a working professional to apply?
No. We care about the work, not the resume. Emerging artists, side-hustlers, full-time freelancers. If you have a body of work and a reason to be in the studio, you're a candidate.
10
What happens after the 6-month minimum?
Stay month-to-month for as long as you want. No re-application, no renewal paperwork. Cancel anytime after the initial six months.
11
How do I book studio time?
Members get 24/7 access to a mobile-friendly scheduling platform. Book from your phone, any time. Simple, fast, built for your workflow.
12
Are there plans to expand?
Yes. We're a growing program inside a 45,000 sq ft arts complex, and we're working toward adding more studios as the membership scales. The black box and white box are just the start.
13
Can I host events, workshops, or screenings?
Talk to us. The space can sometimes work for member-led events outside studio hours. Get in touch and we'll figure it out.
