We’re building a pipeline for radical, community-powered filmmaking that reflects the complexity of real life.

Austin School of Film's bi-annual screening series FILM & FRIENDS is a celebration of bold, original work from emerging filmmakers in our project-based courses.

Each event is curated to spotlight the full range of short-form storytelling: narrative films, experimental analog pieces, mini documentaries, and music videos featuring local Austin bands.

Why This Showcase Matters

This isn't your standard screening.

Film & Friends is built on a belief: film is more than content and entertainment. It's culture. It's protest. It's memory. It's a tool for radical expression and meaningful change.

In a landscape where filmmaking is too often gatekept, commercialized, and stripped of its soul, Film & Friends carves out space for filmmakers who want to make work on their own terms. This series is about accessibility, community, and artistic freedom — a platform where process matters and experimentation is welcome.

Since its inception, Film & Friends has helped hundreds of filmmakers premiere their work publicly — often for the very first time — and continues to fuel Austin's independent-driven media arts movement.

Submission Details

The Summer 2026 Showcase is open to students who created films in our project-based courses between September 2025 and June 2026, including:

  • Documentary Intensive with Todd Wiseman

  • Narrative Intensive with William F. Reed

  • Digital Filmmaking: Script to Screen various sessions

If your film was made in one of these courses, you're invited to submit.

Event Details

  • Dates: June 20 and 27, 2026

  • Time: 4–7 PM

  • Venue: Hyperreal Film Club, East Austin

  • Ages: 18+ (due to content)

How to Submit

Submitting your film is a two-step process:

STEP 1 — Submit Your Film Information(due June 1, 2026) Fill out the submission form below so we have your correct info for the event website, promotional materials, and ticketing access. This step also unlocks early ticket access and your custom social media graphics.

STEP 2 — Submit Your Final Film(due June 15, 2026) Once STEP 1 is complete, you'll receive a private link to upload your finished film. Only filmmakers who complete STEP 1 will receive access to STEP 2.

Heads up: If STEP 1 isn't completed by June 1, we'll assume you're not participating in this showcase.

What Participating Filmmakers Receive

  • Early access to tickets before they go on sale to the public (internal release June 3, public release June 5)

  • Custom marketing graphics for social media promotion

  • A spot on the official Film & Friends event page

  • The chance to premiere your work alongside Austin's newest emerging voices
