Youth Super 8 Workshop & Studio Tour Walk · Taller Juvenil de Super 8 y Recorrido del Studio Tour
ENGLISH
Learn how to shoot on real motion picture film as part of Austin School of Film’s FREE family-friendly programming during Austin Studio Tour.
After a 30-minute lesson in how the camera works (loading, exposure, holding a shot), each pair of kids heads out for a full hour on a walking tour of the Govalle Cultural District led by Faiza Kracheni (Executive Director & Govalle Elementary Alum) and special guests, with stops at the Museum of Human Achievement and The Canopy.
There is no assignment beyond this: film what you notice. The murals, the people, the light on the street you walk every day. Each pair shares one cartridge, so every shot counts. Families are welcome to walk along, but every frame is shot by the kids!
The film gets developed and scanned, and your films screen unedited at Imagining Govalle: An All-Youth Exhibition at The Canopy, November 21 and 22. That is the first time you will see it, so plan to come!
HOW TO REGISTER FOR FREE
Pick one cycle when you register: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM · 1:00 to 2:30 PM · 3:00 to 4:30 PM
Where: Starts and ends at Govalle Elementary, 3601 Govalle Ave. Check in at the front table. Doors open 15 minutes before your cycle.
Who: Kids of any age with a parent or guardian. 12 kids per cycle, paired with another child. Shooting is done 100% by the children enrolled. No experience needed.
On the walk: Workshop lead Faiza Kracheni (MMAC Executive Director and Govalle Elementary alum), special guests, two Govalle Elementary teachers, and two helpers from Austin School of Film, every cycle.

Register one child per order so we can count the film. Siblings can share a cycle if there is space. The registration form asks whether your child would like to sit on the Youth Media Arts Panel at The Canopy on November 21 or 22 (1:00 to 1:30 PM), where the kids who made the work talk about what they made. A parent or guardian signs a short photo and video release at check-in.
