Fusebox is a global hub for the study, commissioning, and presentation of contemporary live performance. For over a decade, their programs and annual festival bring together thousands of artists and art lovers from around the world.
Each year, the team behind the nonprofit curates FUSEBOX FESTIVAL, a multi-day celebration and curation of artists from all around the globe performing, sharing, and contributing to the vibrant performance art landscape. Fusebox Festival itself truly makes adventurous art accessible to all by making their fest completely free to attend.
But what happens when your international festival is set to premiere during an unprecedented global pandemic?
How do you take something curated for very much an “in person” experience to a completely virtual one?
Fusebox Festival 2020: Virtual Edition took place April 24-26, 2020, featured over 60 local, national, and international artists, with 10,000 attendees tuning in from across the globe.
We’ll sit down with Ron Berry (Executive Director & Artistic Director) and Anna Gallagher-Ross (Associate Artistic Director & Curator) about going virtual, building community, what it’s like working with artists from afar, and everything in between.
“This 2.5 day event was public access TV meets international block party meets live performance! We saw this as a platform to explore what it means to gather together and celebrate adventurous art, online.” - Fusebox
