THIS IS A SUMMER FILM PRODUCTION INTENSIVE FOR ADULT STUDENTS AGES 18+ WITH FILM PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE AND IS A TUITION-FREE PROGRAM CREATED TO DIRECTLY SUPPORT EMERGING BIPOC FILMMAKERS.
Digital Filmmaking II: The Art of Narrative Storytelling is a 10-week intermediate film production course tailored for students with prior filmmaking experience or those who have completed Austin School of Film’s Digital Filmmaking I: Script to Screen course. This course includes 8 weeks of instruction and 2 additional lab sessions, totaling 30 hours.
In this specialized course, each student will develop and produce their own 5-10 minute short film, suitable for a professional portfolio and festival submissions. Students are required to come prepared with their own script, which will receive feedback and script doctoring before the first class.

Following in-class exercises, and discussion of the processes, students will cast, produce, and shoot their own short film. The ultimate end result for this 8-week program is to combine universal storytelling techniques with the excellence of production.

This course is limited to 6 students and requires an application to be submitted for consideration.
Films completed in this course are eligible to be featured in multiple Austin School of Film student showcases and community screenings.

INSTRUCTORS:
This course takes place each summer at Austin School of Film as an intermediate intensive for filmmakers who seek to gain more knowledge & hands-on experience as digital storytellers & filmmakers.
Shuja Uddin (he/him) is a screenwriter and filmmaker from Karachi, Pakistan and has graduated from Boston University with an MFA in Screenwriting. He has previously worked at the Austin Film Society and currently runs the International Baccalaureate Film Department at Headwaters School and teaches cinema at the Austin Community College. His writings have been published in the Times of India, The Wire and The Express Tribune.
Shuja’s short film “Article 370” received an Honorable Mention in Prague International Indie Film Quarterly Festival 2021 edition for Best Screenwriter, and he was also the first ever lead writer and showrunner for PUBG Mobile Pakistan Gully Squads series, a popular video game owned by Chinese tech giant Tencent Games.
Ibrahim Baloch (he/him) is a Karachi-based filmmaker and screenwriter who has worked on several Pakistani TV commercials, short films and narrative content. He has extensive advertising experience with Leo Burnett and Saatchi & Saatchi as well as winning several Effie Gold awards, the highest advertising accolades in the industry. Ibrahim is empowering young filmmakers to pursue film education and enable them to tell powerful stories. Ibrahim taught a master lecture with University of Iowa’s International Writing Program 2021 to international students through the support of the US State Department.
Films completed in this course are eligible to be screened at multiple Austin School of Film student showcases, including our SXSW Official Film Community Screening that takes place each year at the annual festival.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This course is for the intermediate filmmakers who wants to improve their skills by learning through project-based exercises and crafting a story from script to screen with advanced techniques under the guidance of two professional filmmakers.
CERTIFICATE: Digital Video Certificate Program elective.
SUPPLIES: any expenses (ex. wardrobe, set design) for your film are the student's responsibility. Students will have access to our iMac computers, equipment rental, studio spaces and co-working area during the duration of the course for their film needs.
This course and all Austin School of Film courses are certified with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide Continue Professional Educational (CPE) credits.
