Understanding production management and the role of a producer is crucial for emerging filmmakers, creators, and production companies. Effective production management, regardless of project size, helps streamline the process and ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.

This beginner-friendly workshop provides an overview of essential pre-production planning and management skills. Participants will gain the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of production efficiently.

Key Topics Include:

  • Stages of Production: An overview of the entire production process, from pre-production to post-production.

  • Crew Roles: A detailed breakdown of the responsibilities and roles of key crew members, including the producer, director, assistant director, editor, and composer.

  • Production Planning: Strategies for creating effective production plans and schedules to keep your project on track.

  • Permits & Releases: Understanding the basics of obtaining necessary permits and releases.

  • Budgeting Basics: Introduction to reading and creating budgets, managing expenses, and understanding financial aspects of production.

Course Benefits:

Participants will gain crucial insights into the roles and responsibilities of each production team member, learn how to set realistic goals, and connect with local industry resources through hands-on experience with a local Producer/Educator. The course equips students with practical skills for managing production logistics, resulting in a more streamlined and efficient workflow.

Course Structure: This producer's workshop is designed for beginners and offers both in-person and virtual learning options to accommodate different learning preferences. The curriculum and in-class time is the same for both learning structures.

  • The in-person workshop spans a single weekend, totaling 10 hours with a 1-hour lunch break each day.

  • The virtual workshop is spread over 4 weeks, consisting of two-hour sessions each week, totaling 10 hours. Virtual classes are hosted on Google Classroom, and participants will receive a link to join in their reminder email. Participants can join the virtual sessions from anywhere, and we've welcomed students from across the United States, showcasing the workshop's broad appeal and impact. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This course is designed for anyone looking to enhance their production planning skills and make their projects look more professional.

CERTIFICATE: ASoF Digital Video Certificate core class.

PAYMENT PLANS: Payment plans are available to anyone for any class or workshop. We suggest 50% of the tuition price as your “down payment”. The additional balance can then be split in up to 2 equal payments over the course of weeks or months. All payment plans are customized, to inquire & get started on a plan, please email classes@austinfilmschool.org.

All ASoF courses are certified with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide Continue Professional Educational (CPE) credits.
