As we approach 2020, it is no surprise digital effects have their place in the independent film industry but what about make-up? In our opinion, not only does practical sfx makeup often look more “real” but it’s also more cost effective!

Today, we’re sharing some photos from our Intro to SFX workshop, where students used both DIY tricks and professional grade makeup to achieve their looks & learn through project-based class assignments & exercises.

Our 12-hour intro weekend workshop is designed to give students an in-depth introduction to special effects makeup with direct guidance and feedback from professional MUA Jennifer Cunningham. Students will learn insider tried & true tips & tricks from Jennifer’s #setlife as well as industry standards and recipes. We want to give students the chance to flex their creative muscles hands-on as they learn from a well-versed industry MUA. Jennifer’s client work spans from feature, short, editorial, corporate, commercial and everything in between.

We cover topics such as: wounds and zombie make-up, body paint for illusion and using common grocery store items to achieve looks without compromising your budget.

Over the course of one weekend, Saturday included hands-on instruction with students working on themselves as well as a live model demo in class. Sunday was dedicated to final looks with 10+ models for the students to work directly with.

Take a peek both behind the scenes of the class and final portraits below then take a deep breathe hold onto your seat because SFX II: Monsters & Wounds is taking place THIS WEEKEND (as we type this)! Expect a full recap with photos next week.
