Getting Weird with SFX Makeup
As we approach 2020, it is no surprise digital effects have their place in the independent film industry but what about make-up? In our opinion, not only does practical sfx makeup often look more “real” but it’s also more cost effective!
Today, we’re sharing some photos from our SFX II: Monsters & Wounds advanced workshop, where students used both DIY tricks and professional grade makeup to achieve their looks & learn through project-based class assignments & exercises.
Our 12-hour follow-up workshop to Intro to SFX dives deeper into monster & wound SFX make up effects and is designed to push students to create more complex special effects while working exclusively with “monster” themes & concepts.
Over the course of one weekend, Saturday included hands-on instruction with students working on themselves to work out, trouble shoot, and try new techniques with direct guidance of professional MUA & SFX artist Jennifer Cunningham. Sunday was completely dedicated to final looks with live models for the students to work directly with.
…But what about SFX III? What does it cover?
Special FX III: Mold Casting & Prosthetics offers students an in-depth, hands-on, project-based learning environment to go beyond the basics of SFX movie-magic. Students will make their own customized face cast, prosthetics, and costume pieces with guidance & hands-on learning with pro MUA + SFX lead Jennifer Cunningham.
