We're exploring the world of the dozens of local artists featured at MMAC’s 2018 EAST gallery and their mediums. The goal of this series is to shed light on real-life Central Texas artists exploring what & why they create.

Tell us about your art!  What medium do you usually work in?  What is most unique or your favorite part about your art?

I create modern jewelry and art pieces using fused glass, polymer clay and sterling silver. I think my favorite part about my art is the process of creating, and the self-reflection inherent to it. I enjoy this intuitive journey and I’m looking forward to sharing it with my art viewers.

Who or what has been a big inspiration for creating?

Most of the time, it’s after I finish a piece, or sometimes later, that I become aware of the inspiration source. I find myself drawn towards nature: concentric rings formed by a raindrop in water, a wisp of moss between cracked stone, a few birds in the swarms of thousands settling in for the night... They become fragments of an imaginary world that gets a voice through my art.

You have shown in five West Austin Studio Tours and one EAST, what are you looking forward to most with this year's exhibition?

WEST and East Austin Studio Tours have been great, enriching experiences throughout the years. I am looking forward to this year’s EAST, with the hope of getting more exposure for my art, interacting and getting feedback from the tour goers and meeting other artists.
