Our Community Director Carrie Cates is watching a horror film each day this October, in what she has dubbed 31 Days of Horror! We’ll be posting her spooky cinema journey here every day this month, so check back in to see what she’s watching next!

Black Sunday (or The Mask of Satan)

"I think this is the first Mario Bava movie I’ve watched, and I wasn’t disappointed.  For its age, it really holds up, and it seems like you can really see some of the elements that make a horror movies today work being toyed with and tweaked.  Great camera movements, really interesting set pieces, good casting, etc.  It’s usually easy to get a little bored with older horror films, but this one kept my attention and had some great things going for it.  I can certainly see why it has such a reputation.

2 out of 5 on the frightometer  not super scary, but a good story with great horror elements."
