Casually Explained: Is She Into You?

Honestly, as predictable and kooky as this, I find myself laughing so hard every time. Enjoy this crudely animated, painfully relatable story of being blissfully oblivious and looking for love.

The Blue Gardenia (dir. by Fritz Lang)

I'm including a review, which far exceeds any of my skills at describing  this film.   Every time I've seen The Blue Gardenia - usually late at night on TCM, I think that I'm watching another cozy black and white Post-WW2 Women's Film, but unlike Stage Door with Katherine Hepburn, this film impresses me with its truthfulness and scares me with the possible outcomes.   It's a Fritz Lange film I don't know why I'm surprised!

Twinsters (dir. by Samantha Futerman & Ryan Miyamoto)

Twinsters follows the real life story of Samantha and Aniis, separated-at-birth-twins who find each other by chance and reunite. The documentary does not play into suspense; rather it explores the emotional aspects of such discovery. The progression of this film provides for an empathetically contagious experience that will give you all the feels.

Seriously, you're not watching this yet? I shouldn't even need to write this come on! I have an almost unhealthy addiction to this near-perfect show (On level with The Wire, which is the Shakespeare of TV drama). I even read all 5 currently published books just to soak up as much information about the story line as possible. Tyrion, Bran Stark, John Snow, The Onion Knight--all perfectly executed characters. Like I said, an unhealthy addiction...

The new season started this past Sunday and is already blowing my mind.

Western Spaghetti (Created by PES)

Western Spaghetti is a 2009 Sundance Film Festival award winner.  His follow-up film, Fresh Guacamole was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2013.  Accolades aside, this fun-spirited piece of bright colors and creative substitutes really left me thinking, why didn't I think of that?  It is a delight for viewers of all ages and every class I've ever shown it to has immediately wanted to try to create their own deviation.  That's what truly makes this short special.  It inspires others to be creative, and lights a little candy corn spark in all of us.

Small Little Things (dir. by Jard Hogan)

WATCH IT HERE: https://vimeo.com/96823376

From the opening shots of Jared Hogan’s short film, “Small Little Things,” everything is cold. And what follows is a palpable, ethereal portrait of ideal love that is unforgiving, beautiful, and relentless. The title itself gathers up new meanings with each passing moment, and reflects more and more about the dangers of young love. This danger, at least for me, is all too relatable, and more so for those who dwell on past/present relationships. The one that got away; the one that was too perfect; the one that you wanted; the one that you had to hurt. And in the end, everything comes down to the small, little things that add up for the beauty, and the pain.

ABBA - Take a Chance

I wanted to spice things up this week and pick a music video. Now, I seriously dare you to watch this and not smile. This is pure gold - I could not have chosen anything better to watch 6 times consecutively when I was feeling a little bit down. The transitions, the dances moves, the white vignette... it's just beautiful. I think that 2:48 - 3:04 is the best part.
