VISUAL RECAP: 2024 Middle School Animation Camp

With 25 years of experience in youth education, this summer at our East Austin HQ, we will meet 110 families and youth students through our uniquely tailored camps that serve a diverse range of interests.

This summer, students had the opportunity to choose from a variety of one-week programs or mix and match for different learning experiences. Whether it's digital animation or Super 8 filmmaking, we curated the best offerings for our youth campers.

In our Animation Middle School Camp, students embarked on a creative journey, mastering the craft of animated characters and captivating worlds using Adobe Animate, a Wacom tablet, and stylus. Throughout the week, they applied essential animation principles to bring their ideas to life, creating vibrant digital animations which included traditional 2D animation and rotoscope animation.

As a finale, students learned to compile a highlights reel using editing software, showcasing their favorite animations, complete with music or voice-over. This reel was screened at our end-of-camp pizza party and will screen again at the official showcase at Alamo Drafthouse in August 2024, where families and friends celebrated their creative achievements.

No prior animation experience was necessary, though familiarity with basic computer skills was essential. This tech art experience was particularly tailored for individuals with an interest in drawing, providing a dynamic environment to explore and excel in digital animation.
