Alonso on set.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering—wait the workshop series is back?!

Our Cinematography workshop series with Alonso J Lujan garners at least 3 emails per week on a status check. Highly requested time and time again, they are back for the first time since February 2020!

But what makes these workshops so special?

Like all classes at Austin School of Film, they are small & intimate class settings that very much mimic independent crew sizes. After all, it’s scientifically proven people learn better in smaller groups.

Our curriculum is artfully created to reflect more than just the technical aspects of shooting or the role of Cinematographer and all gear is provided onsite. However, the most important piece of the pie is award-winning Director & Cinematographer Alonso J Lujan.

Peruvian-born, Alonso grew up in San Francisco, later moving to Madrid where he lived for ten years. While in Europe, he shot and directed a variety of films, music videos, and other content that screened at festivals across the globe, collecting numerous accolades. He also received the MTV award for Best Music Video at the Independent Music Awards in Spain UFI10 for his work with Everlasting Records.

Alonso's approach to cinematography aims to create an intimate visual language that resonates deeply with the viewer. To that end, his technical and aesthetic decisions are motivated by the emotional needs of the narrative. This philosophy applies whether making a commercial, documentary, narrative film, or music video; regardless of the format, his ultimate goal is always to produce the highest quality work.

He currently lives & works in Austin, where he works on narrative films, commercials, music videos, and documentaries.  Some of the clients Alonso has worked with include Coca Cola, Verizon, Facebook, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music, to name a few.
