So here’s your reminder: you’ve got five months left to make something that matters. Something you’ve been thinking about but haven’t started yet. A story that’s been sitting in your head, waiting for its moment.

Our Make Something Classes are the longer-form courses—the ones you live with, think about, and walk away from with something tangible. Each is beginner friendly, community-centered, and built to get your ideas out of your head and into the world.

If you’re into writing but want to learn how to not only format a story into a screenplay but refinement, feedback, structure, and mentorship, we recommend:

Intro to Screenwriting (2 spots left, Tuesdays, Sep 2 – Oct 21, from 6:30-9:30pm ) - This 8-week course takes you from blank page to finished short film script. You’ll learn the fundamentals—formatting, structure, character development—and end with the chance to hear your work read aloud by local actors.

If you’re interested in film production and want to not only get an introduction to the process but also gain hands-on experience working on a crew, pitching ideas, and making an entire short film—with access to studio time, equipment rentals, and lab time all included, we recommend:

Digital Filmmaking: Script to Screen (9 spots left, Mondays, Sep 8 – Oct 27 or Wednesdays, Sep 10 – Oct 29, from 6:30-9:30pm - An 8-week immersion in the filmmaking process. Write, shoot, and edit 2–3 short films with your classmates using professional gear. We wrap with a public screening of your work.

If you’re ready to step away from traditional storytelling and into the poetic, strange, and surreal but also work with motion picture film, we recommend:

Avant-Garde & Experimental Filmmaking (1 spot left, Tuesdays, Sep 9 – Oct 28, from 6:30pm-9:30pm) - Step away from traditional storytelling and into the poetic, strange, and surreal. Work with Super 8 and 16mm direct animation to create your own experimental short film. We wrap with a public screening of your work.

If you’re curious about rotoscoping and want to explore how to transform live-action footage into frame-by-frame animation by learning from a professional animator with credits on Amazon Studios’ Undone and Apollo 10 ½, we recommend:

Intro to Rotoscope Animation (4 spots left, Thursdays, Sep 4 – Oct 9) - If you’re curious about the art of rotoscoping—tracing over live-action footage to create hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation—this course offers a true deep dive. Ideal for animators looking to refine their skills or filmmakers eager to blend animation into their projects, you’ll learn how to turn live-action scenes into a fully animated short. Taught by a professional animator with credits on Amazon Studios’ Undone and Apollo 10 ½.

If you’re into writing but want to learn how to not only format a story into a screenplay but also refine your work with feedback, develop structure, and receive mentorship but you’re not in Austin OR prefer the flexibility of learning online, we recommend:

Intro to Screenwriting: Virtual Edition (10 spots left, just opened!, Wednesdays, Oct 1 – Nov 19, 6-8PM)
Same course, same community, but online—so you can join from anywhere. End with a finished short film script and the option to submit for a live table read.

Remember, You don’t just have to watch films—you can make your own right here.
