As part of New Manifest Theatre's Manifest Minifest 5th annual short play festival, workshops about writing, directing, and producing are included in our week of programming.
In this writing workshop, participants will dive into the creation of story by exploring who their main character is - his flaws, her strengths, their wants, their obstacles. The workshop will then have participants create story beats so they can further develop their writing beyond the class.
The characters discussed in class must be fictional for purposes of this workshop. They can have traits inspired by real people. But to challenge the imagination and deepen the writing, the main character must be fictional.
This writing workshop is low tech so feel free to bring paper and pencil or a laptop.
This workshop is led by Christine Hoang.
Christine is a Vietnamese American screenwriter, playwright, actor, producer, and recovering lawyer based in Austin, Texas. She was born in New Orleans Charity Hospital and learned English by watching Sesame Street. Her stories are centered on Southern BIPOC characters trying to find their way.
