Week 084

Halloween seems to have become an entire month-long, spook-tacular celebration rather than one singular day. And that is totally fine by us! MIX/VHS is PUMPED for some creepy recommendations this month, but for this week, we kept it short and simple. A nice pallet cleanser. Just for y’all. Enjoy!

OMG

WATCH IT HERE!

Anyone familiar with STARKID the group that brought you A Very Potter Musical and spawned Darren Criss into the entertainment world, may not have seen their more obscure work. This is one of my favorite short films, both in story and seemingly simple production style. It’s the kind of film that always leaves me wanting to make more movies.

oh baby // LCD Soundsystem

WATCH IT HERE!

Fresh off of the audience-pleasing hit, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (sarcasmmmmmm), Rian Johnson recently directed this gorgeously simple music video for LCD Soundsystem's "oh baby." I absolutely adore this piece - the premise, the simplicity, the shots, the chemistry.

C.B. Strike

WATCH THE TRAILER HERE!

C.B. Strike (2017) is a television series based on the detective novels written by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a. J.K. Rowling). Set in modern-day London, the story follows a war veteran-turned-private detective, Cormoran Strike who takes on murder cases with the help of his female assistant Robin Ellacott. The series is unbelievably intense, thrilling, suspenseful and will literally have you at the edge of your seat during each episode’s most exciting bits (no exaggeration). If you’re looking for a new series to start, I would definitely recommend this one.

whats poppin’

WATCH IT HERE!

Truly, humanity is in it’s most honest form when we mistakenly turn on our phone camera and record ourselves being vain alone. This man is no different. In fact. He speaks for us all. What we are hiding from the world. What words we wish could leave our mouths. His verse is the dialect of these modern, vain times. Don’t deny this man’s truth. It is ours too.

The Dragon Lives Again

DRAGON-LIVES-AGAIN-8.jpg

WATCH IT HERE!

Bruce Lee died and the world of film burned to ashes. From the ashes rose men whose names could easily be mistaken for Bruce Lee creating a new genre of exploitation films, Bruceploitation! Take for example Bruce Leong the star of The Dragon Lives Again, a film where Bruce Lee-lite fights Dracula, The Man With No Name (Clint Eastwood in The Good The Bad and The Ugly), James Bond, Zatochi, The Godfather and many others. This movie is amazing it's on Prime and the quality is not great but I feel that adds to the appeal of the film. It's a cheap bizarre cash grab, an ultimate team-up of greed if you will.
