Friends of Cinemaker Spotlight Local Talent in Vibrant Showcase
Austin Cinemaker Space, established in 2015 as a Studio Access Program, embodies the nonprofit's commitment to fostering sustainable pathways into the arts.
Rooted in the belief that affordable workspaces are essential for artists and creators to thrive, it has become a hub for over 100 local members and organizations. Recognizing the wealth of talent within its community, Cinemaker recently curated a member-only showcase, offering a platform for artists to both celebrate their work and directly engage with the local community.
The event commenced with a captivating artist talk, featuring the resident artists of Artists in Motion, Joshua Oliver, Michelle Bluhm, and Evelyn Rude, who shared their creative journeys and the challenges they face in an environment of rising costs. Following the panel, ACS presented 15 exciting all-local films created entirely by it’s Studio Access members. This showcase, provided a significant opportunity for these local filmmakers to present their works during a period of heightened excitement surrounding film and creative media in Austin.
Among the featured works were music videos such as "Emily" by Pale Dian, directed by Raphael Umscheid, "Xi Xon" by promqueen, directed by Casie Luong, "Eggs in a Basket" by Tele Novella, directed by Vanessa Pla, "Do You Remember" by Alma Jette, directed by Jinni J, and "Dreaming from my childhood bed" by Alexi 8bit', directed by Z.H. Williams.
The showcase also included the film "Narc," directed by Antonio Jimenez, as well as a selection of short documentaries and films, including "Tlaloc (Lines Drawn in Water)" directed by Abinadi Meza, "Silent Descent" directed by Matt Kaminski, "The Tripod Factory" directed by Garrett Graham, "First Organics Label" directed by People's History in Texas, "Lucia's Puppet Show" with animation by Patrick Zimmerman, "Breakfast To Go" directed by Ronald Short, "Man in the Booth" directed by William F. Reed, "Gut Punch" directed by Elysia Van Deusen, and "Body" directed by Ronald Short.
This events serve as a testament to the burgeoning creative scene facilitated by Austin Cinemaker Space, reinforcing its vital role in nurturing and showcasing local talent.
