OPERA
"AHHHH! I had high expectations for this film: I really really liked Susperia, and it almost satisfied my want for more Susperia. While this film does have more happening throughout rather than being a long slow burn, I’m not sure that I liked it more. One of the biggest problems I had while watching was that I’m not sure the needle eye thing would actually work the way the killer has planned unless you were to squeeze your eyes closed. Otherwise though, there’s some great Argento style going on. I love that he seems to take the understudy or the ‘girl that shouldn’t have made it into the ballet class’ route. It’s like, they shouldn’t be where they are, but because they are, let’s torture them for their good luck or something. I think the thing it really has going for it for me personally was the color scheme, style, and blood reminded me a lot of one of my favs, Don’t Look Now. As much as I did enjoy this film, the third act is a total mess. But let’s be real: do you don’t watch an Argento film for the end?
3 out of 5 on the fright-o-meter for violence, and the iconic needle eyes that do effectively make you squirm."
