Spend your summer learning what goes on behind the scenes of your favorite guts, gore, and monster films!

Campers will get an in-depth introduction to special effects makeup from professional special FX artist Jennifer Cunningham and learn valuable tips and tricks. This camp gives teen students the chance to flex their creative muscles as you learn some basics and explore! Students will partake in a portraits photoshoot to capture looks created in camp. Students will leave this camp with a mini makeup kit including items that will be demonstrated in class so that you can recreate creations for future projects, digital photos + short videos compromised of each of the looks created shot in our professional film/video studio.

Topics covered in this camp include:

  • Monster & Zombie Makeup

  • Injury & Wound application

  • Paint for illusion

  • Fake blood: how to make it and how to fake it

  • Using homemade items & easy recipes to achieve looks without compromising your budget vs. industry standard professional kits (pros & cons of each)

All films & creative projects completed in ASoF camps will screen for the public as part of our annual Loud & Clear Youth Film Festival at Alamo Drafthouse in August 2019. All camps are a flat fee of $275 with no additional costs and include a free summer camp t-shirt for each camper registered.

CAMP SCHEDULE:
July 8 - July 19, 2019 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm (Monday - Friday)

Pair this camp with a morning camp for students to experience a full day of camp such as: Animation or Digital Filmmaking.

ALL DAY CAMPS: MEDIA MAKERS (8-16 yr olds) can choose to mix & match morning & afternoon camps for a full day of camp.

LUNCH & SNACK BREAK: all camps will have multiple scheduled snack breaks & a lunch break from 1pm - 2pm every day.

MEDIA MAKERS award-winning summer camps lay the foundation for youth to explore all creative aspects in filmmaking & digital arts over the course of two weeks, with a uniquely designed project-based curriculum of hands-on learning.

Campers work with industry professionals, real equipment and learn technical skills in production & post-production. Our youth programs are known for its award winning youth films with screenings at: Guggenheim Museum, AFI Film Festival, Chicago International Children's Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Austin Youth Film Festival, South by South West, Nashville Film Festival and many more.
