This 4-week class will provide students with a practical foundation for creating digital video for installation, performance, web, or screen.

In this digital arts course, students will gain a comprehensive overview of the experimentation, execution, and theory of contemporary video art through the use of non-linear editing platforms such as Adobe Premiere Pro and software such as Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop. 

Each class consists of a weekly curated screening of relevant works, class discussion + dissection, and hands-on instructional learning for students to gain conceptual knowledge and technical skill for non-narrative digital filmmaking.

Topics covered include:

  • Digital video post-production: sound, motion control, and non-linear editing.

  • Techniques of assembling footage

  • Methods for manipulating the aesthetics of footage

  • Creation and execution of your own original video art project(s)

INSTRUCTOR: Alie Jackson is a Multimedia Artist, Art Director and 2D Motion Designer born and raised in Austin, TX. She received her B.F.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University with a focus on Advertising Design and Photography. As a multimedia artist, she has screened experimental films and music videos at Transform Film Festival, Austin Music Video Festival and was the Boss Babes Resident Artist for February/March 2018. Alie currently works as an Art Director and the Lead Designer at Project C where she specializes in creating interactive experiences for entertainment clients such as ABC, FX, Disney, Amazon Studios, Marvel and more. 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Anyone interested in the creation of digital experimental video art and installation and those working towards their ASoF Digital Video Certificate.

SUPPLIES: Students are responsible for supplying their own images to use in class (digital photos, videos, and other creative media). Further instruction regarding this in-class. 

 PRE-REQUISITES: Students who have some experience in Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop and/or those who have taken our Intro courses for listed creative software.

CERTIFICATE: ASoF Digital Video Certificate elective class

This course and all ASoF courses are certified with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide Continue Professional Educational (CPE) credits.
