This creative 16mm workshop will explore the highly experimental and deeply satisfying world of creating motion pictures entirely without a camera. Students will be shown a variety of work made in this manner and be taught a wide range of techniques including:

  • Painting directly onto the film

  • Working with colored & clear leader

  • Working with found footage

  • Pen & ink

  • Projecting with 16mm

  • Digitizing projects

INSTRUCTOR: Faiza Kracheni is a multimedia artist and musician living and working in Austin, Texas. Her work primarily focuses with film, in such formats as Super 8, 16mm and 35mm drawing inspiration for her work from subculture movements such as punk, fetish, and religion/ ritual. Her work has screened in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, Oklahoma and Austin. She is currently working on a new film to premiere in Fall 2017.

SUPPLIES: students will be provided with 16mm film, paints, art supplies and gear to experiment and create a completely abstract short film over the course of a weekend! The methods taught are accessible for students to continue to keep creating 16mm films outside of class and a fun way to be introduced to new methods of creating visual art. 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Students with an interest in art and experimental methods and those working towards their ASoF Digital Video Certificate. Ages 16 and older, no pre-requisites.

CERTIFICATE: ASoF Digital Video Certificate elective class.

This course and all ASoF courses are certified with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide Continue Professional Educational (CPE) credits.
