Digital Filmmaking for Teens

Digital Filmmaking for Teens

This hands-on course will take students through the process of making a short film from script to screen. Students will be immersed into the world of digital filmmaking and learn extensively on topics such as: screenwriting, story boarding, casting, camera movement, sound, lighting and will take on such crew roles such as: Gaffer (lighting), Boom Operator (sound), Editor, Cinematographer (camera), Producer, and Director. At the end of this class, students will have a festival-ready 5 minute short film.

In class time will be reserved for hands-on film production education and pre-production & planning their film. Students will schedule their film shoot outside of class with film teacher. Students will host real film auditions, cast real actors, shoot on location in/around Austin, and use professional filmmaking gear provided by ASoF.

This class is perfect for high school students who are wanting to learn the world filmmaking and produce polished real festival-ready short films.

Austin School of Film will submit all final films from this course to the Austin Youth Film Festival on behalf of the students. Their film will also be showcased in ASoF’s annual Community Screening along with fellow ASoF student films (from all ages + classes).
