It's back!

Saturday, July 28 to Sunday, July 29, 2018
10:00AM — 10:00AM (24 hrs)

What is it?

Since 2005, High School students across Texas' landscape come together to create short films in only 24 hours during ASoF's infamous Annual Youth M.A.F.I.A Day Competition & Festival. This year, ASoF is shakin' things up for a Summer Edition!

This event takes place from 10am-10am at Austin School of Film during Texas' 2018 summer break.

What are the rules?

  • You and your team will have 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film.
  • You will receive a genre and a prop that must to be incorporated into your short film.
  • Your team will be required to have a max of five students.
  • You may sign up individual or with your team. If you do not have a team, you will be placed in one at the start of the event.
  • Students are not permitted to leave campus without written parental consent during the 24 hour period.
  • Teams cannot shoot outside of the 24 hour competition (ex: you cannot shoot at a store nearby, in your car off campus, at your home etc). If you do, your film will be disqualified.

Who will see my film?

  • All finished films are screened for the public at ASoF's Official Youth Film Festival -- Loud & Clear at Alamo Drafthouse in August (date TBA).
  • Films are judged according to their story, technical merit, and the filmmaker's ability to incorporate and use the prescribed guidelines. Categories include Best Use of Prop, Best Use of Genre, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.

PRIZES

Winning teams of each category will receive up to $2,000 in prizes to be announced and all winning films will be entered in Austin Youth Film Festival 2019!
