Motion Media Arts Center is excited to host accomplished NYC-based educator, artist, and founder of Mappathon™, ChiKA, for a special weekend at our East Austin creative hub!

ChiKA will lead a two day workshop formulated for complete beginners on Projection Mapping. As an educator, she is a founder of Mappathon™ and has taught in the US, Europe, South America, and Asia.

Over the course of a weekend, this class will provide students with a practical foundation for creating installations using Modul8, MadMapper, and Vezer.

Students will learn the newest techniques in projection mapping – no experience necessary. Not only will students walk away with their very own projection mapping artwork, but they will also get to a free 30-day full access to Modul8, MadMapper, and Vezer to continue to develop their practice.

  • scholarships, sliding scale, & payment plans open for all.

  • This class is intended for adults 18+.

Projection mapping technology can turn almost any surface into a dynamic video display. Specialized software, nodul8, and madMapper are used to create animation, warp and blend projected images, so they fit perfectly on irregularly shaped “screens.”

CHiKA is currently at MANA Contemporary: BSMT New Media Residency. She was an NYU’s Interactive Telecommunication Program and an Eyebeam Resident, a BRIC Media Art Fellow, Hervestworks Resident, and a Metropolitan Museum Media Lab Researcher. She was also selected to be a Triangle Art Association Workshop and Bronx Museum AIM program. Her work has shown in numerous international venues and festivals, including the Metropolitan Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Art and Design, NY Hall of Science, the Hammer Museum, San Francisco Art Institute, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Museo Regional de Guadalajara, Matadero Madrid, Eyebeam, Harvestworks, and International Biennial Contemporary Art ULA-2010, Mapping Festival, Mutek, Dumbo Art Festival and among.
