Austin School of Film presents a series of mini workshops for youth in animation, film and mixed media that allow interested students in all levels of experience to create creative and fun experimental works.We believe developing new skills in media arts should be accessible to each and every person in our community at an affordable cost. Workshops are $25 each and open to students ages 9-17 years old.
Animation with Flash
Instructor: Jeanne Stern
Would you like to make your drawings come to life? In this workshop participants will delve into the world of hand-drawn animation. We will use Flash 2D animation software to create a variety of simple animations. What is Flash? It's a software program that allows you to create a sophisticated version of the flip-books you made as a kid (and much more). We will begin with a smorgasbord of animation activities, followed by open time to play and experiment. No previous animation experience required. Please bring a USB drive or blank DVD to take your work home with you. Limited to 8 students per workshop.

How to: Shoot & Process Super 8 Film
Instructor: Faiza Kracheni
In this two day workshop students will learn the process and development of creating a short Super 8 black and white silent film. From camera basics, shoot techniques to the chemical process, development and splicing your reel. No previous experience in film required. Limited to 8 students per workshop.
Supplies: Students can purchase their roll of Super 8 film @ ASoF for an additional $12 on day of workshop. All other materials provided.

Participants will use their imagination to create miniature worlds using handmade animation techniques such as stop-motion and paper cut-out animation. All materials provided. *If students have access to a digital camera with still photo capabilities, please bring it to class!
~Can I sign up in person?
All registration must be done online via our website.
~What is the deadline to sign up?
Classes will close for registration 24 hours before the course begins. You must register at least 24 hours in advance.
~Are there forms to be completed in person?
Parent/Guardian will be contacted with an email reminder the day before the workshop begins with PDF forms to be completed and A) emailed back to ASoF or B) printed and brought to the first day of the workshop.
~Are students permitted at any time to leave school campus?
No student is allowed to leave school campus during the duration of the workshop unless accompanied by their guardian/parent (*unless otherwise notified*)
~When is drop off and pick up?
Earliest drop off time is 15 minutes before the start time of the workshop. If student is being picked up early for any reason, please notify ASoF by call or email prior to the pick-up.
~Is the content of the films created by the student censored?
Austin School of Film does not believe in censoring our students. However, there are rules! 1. No Fake weapons or blood. 2. No cursing or foul language. 3. No mindless violence or inappropriate content. Our instructors are mindful of the creative flow of our students and will assure their film ideas are thought out and constructed in a positive enviroment. Does ASoF supply snacks and lunch?
No, however, students who are partaking in all day workshops (10am - 4pm) will be asked to bring a sack lunch. All students are welcome to bring their favorite snacks and beverages. ASoF will have bottled water and hot tea for students to enjoy.
