SXSW 2012 FILM YOUTH M.A.F.I.A. DAY FESTIVAL
Austin School of Film
What is it?
Since 2005, Texas high school students, ages 14-19, come together to create short films in only 24 hours during the Annual Youth M.A.F.I.A Day Film Festival & Screening, held in conjunction with SXSW Film's Annual Texas High School Film Competition. This event takes place from 10am-10am at an area school during SXSW.
What are the rules?
You and your team will have 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film. You will receive a genre and a prop that HAS to be incorporated into your short film. Your team will be required to have four students.
Where is it?
This event takes place from 10am March 10th -11am March 11th at Crockett High School, 5601 Manchaca Road Austin, TX 78745.
What does ASOF provide?
Austin School of Film will provide Saturday lunch & dinner, and Sunday breakfast in addition to snacks & drinks. You and your team will also be able to access the editing labs to edit your short films.
What you should bring:
- Your permission slips
- Your M.A.F.I.A Badge
- Wardrobe for your film
- Props for your film
- Ideas for your film
- Notebook
- Duct tape
- Board games / deck of cards
- Change of clothes
- Toothbrush & toothpaste
- Sleeping bag
- Pillow
- Camera equiment
Who will see my film?
All finished films are screened for the public at an official SXSW Film Showcase during the festival. Films are judged according to their story, technical merit, and the filmmaker's ability to incorporate and use the prescribed guidelines. Categories include Best Use of Prop, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Viewers' Choice. The WINNING TEAMS receive SXSW FILM PASSES!!!! All participants in the Youth M.A.F.I.A. Day Film Festival receive certificates of participation and coupons for discounted Austin School of Film courses.
