Super 8 Workshop: Shoot & Process

Shooting on film can be an intimating thought for someone who is new to film and the craft. We believe in keep access to this art form as accessible as possible by developing this unique class for all levels interested! It's a myth you have to break the bank to shoot on film!

CLASS DETAILS:                                                                                                                                   In this two day workshop is a hands-on introduction to shooting on Super 8 film and the development process. Students will learn the process of shooting on Super 8 cameras from camera functions, reading a light meter, basic shot composition, and tips & tricks to developing their film with chemical kits in our new darkroom, splicing and DIY digital transfers. This class serves as both an educational tool to keeping cinema and film alive and thriving in Central Texas as well as an low-cost no frills approach to the D-I-Y methods of working with film stock.

Students will be working with Kodak's Tri-x Black & White Reversal film and be able to purchase their stock directly from ASoF at a discounted rate.

This class is welcome to all skill levels including beginners with no experience.

Supplies: Camera and camera gear (splicer, reel to reel, projector and other materials) provided in class. Students can purchase their film stock directly from ASoF at $12 per roll.

About the instructor: 

Faiza Kracheni is a multimedia artist and musician living and working in Austin, Texas. Her work primarily focuses with film, in such formats as Super 8, 16mm and 35mm drawing inspiration for her work from subculture movements such as punk, fetish, and religion/ ritual. Her work has screened in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, Oklahoma and Austin. She is currently working on a new film to premiere in Fall 2017.
