Editing for TV
with Haunted texas

This hands-on workshop is designed for all levels of students interested in learning in a fast-paced creative environment how to edit while working on a real tv show.

Students will have the option to continue after the workshop's duration as assistant editors on new tv show, Haunted Austin: History and Hauntings in the Capital City. This is an exciting chance for ASoF students to develop career changing skill set in post-production, network with professionals and have their name credited on a television program.

CLASS DETAILS                                                                                                               Documentaries are all about planning, organization and tone. Filmmakers may capture hundreds or even thousands of hours of material while in the field. The editor is responsible for cutting this material down to a nominal run-time while staying true to the vision of the director and producers. This can be challenging, but with the right mentality, skill-set and attitude, a savvy editor will know exactly how to achieve this.

After meeting with KLRU programming director David Lauderman, and through in-depth planning with Haunted Texas host and producer Jeanine Plumer, the author of Haunted Austin: History and Hauntings in the Capital City and owner of Austin Ghost Tours, digital creative & Senior Editor Matthew Wallen will guide new assistant editors in this ASoF partnering workshop in understanding the intended style of the program while offering professional guidance in Final Cut X as well as video editing educational instruction.

Open to all skill levels. Space is limited and first come, first serve. 

 

Goals: The goal of this course is to not only teach students how to navigate the daunting task of organizing hours of footage but also instruct you on various editing techniques, styles, approaches, and how to sit in a chair for hours without going completely insane.

Who Should Attend: Students interested in gaining experience as an editor on a tv show, network with professionals in the film industry and understand the fundementals of not only editing for tv and everything it takes to achieve the job but gaining a hands-on editing education.

About the instructor: 

Matthew Wallen is a a digital creative and video editor currently living and working in Austin, Texas. His role in "Haunted Texas" is Senior Editor, overseeing post-production for 5 unaired and uncut episodes of Haunted Texas.
