ABSTRACT FILMMAKING: Painting on Film
Faiza Kracheni

This creative 16mm workshop will explore the highly experimental and deeply satisfying world of creating motion pictures entirely without a camera. Students will be shown a variety of work made in this manner and be taught a wide range of techniques including:

  • Painting directly onto the film
  • Exposing film out-of-camera
  • Working with colored leader
  • Working with found footage
  • Projecting
  • Scratch animation
  • Pen & ink

Students will be provided with 16mm film, paints, art supplies and gear to experiment and create a completely abstract short film over the course of a weekend! The methods taught are accessible for students to continue to keep creating 16mm films outside of class and a fun way to be introduced to new methods of creating visual art

All supplies included for the duration of this workshop.
