CINEMAKER
About the Program

WHAT WAS THE CINEMAKER CO-OP?

The Cinemaker Co-Op was a non-profit film resource center in Austin, TX existing from the late 90s – early 2000s dedicated to providing low-cost Super 8 film equipment rentals, education workshops, screening salons and film festivals.

WHAT IS CINEMAKER NOW?

The Austin School of Film was born after two organizations joined forces: The Center for Young Cinema (CYC) and The Austin Cinemaker Co-op. ASoF runs the Cinemaker program as a way to return to our roots in experimental filmmaking.

Cinemaker’s mission is to preserve and uphold the belief that filmmaking is a financially accessible art form, commanding the encouragement of freedom of expression, experimentation and the active exchange of ideas among filmmakers.

Cinemaker provides work space, free courses, workshops, screenings and community gatherings that are committed to defining the importance of film as an artistic expression and a method of communication for artists.

You will need a membership to participate in the resources offered by the Cinemaker Program.
